While skimming Pinterest the other day, I read the coffee ground and baking soda help to make your hair shiny and soft. I was skeptical, but figured what the heck, I will give this a try. I mixed two tablespoons of coffee grounds (fresh, not used, thought I am sure it doesn’t matter) with two tablespoons of my shampoo and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. I added a couple drops of water and stirred.
It feels really weird to put gritty stuff on your hair. I used about half of the mixture on my hair. The coffee grounds are messy… BUT it does make the bathroom smell like a Starbucks, and I am totally OK with that.
I left it on for a few minutes and rinsed really, really well to get the grounds out. My hair felt really clean, and I needed some serious conditioner to get it untangled.
Shiner? Yes, I think so. Softer and smoother? Um, yes, but probably more from the conditioner than the coffee.
After a quick Google, I learned that coffee, the caffeine actually, helps to promote hair growth. Given this information, I will stick with it for a few weeks and see how it goes. Upon further reading, it seems that soaking your hair in coffee will also help (and seems less messy).
Oh, and there is actually a funny story about coffee as a hair removal.
This probably goes without saying, but if you have blonde or light hair, you should not do this, as the coffee will stain your hair.
