Today I did a project from my Pinterest board, a River Stone Trivet. I bought a bag of rocks from the dollar store and two black felt sheets from Walmart.

I used one of my pots to outline a circle on the felt, and then cut it out and hot glued the stones to the felt. The whole thing took about 30 minutes and I spent a grand total $1.46 in supplies.

I think they have a certain rustic charm, and it gave me something to do on a Sunday afternoon.

They look great! I’ve been dying to try this project, but I had a bad feeling about using felt. How’s it holding up? Would you recommend the felt now that you’ve been using it for a while? I’ve been debating on whether to use something thicker like a mousepad.

Thank you! I think they have held up pretty well. I like that the felt is flexible. If I did it again, I would buy flatter rocks so the surface is more even. I also didn’t line up stones up with any rhyme or reason. It would probably look prettier if they were in a pattern. Be careful of your work surface while making them, as I did notice the hot glue went through the felt when I was putting them together. Have fun!
